Day 8: NYFW Fall 2012 RTW
Calvin Klein Collection
Francisco Costa pulled off a marvellous showing for Calvin Klein Collection on the final day of Fashion Week for Fall 2012.
Said to be inspired by Rooney Mara (spotted backstage and front-row with fellow girl-of-the-moment, Emma Stone), Costa came up with the goods, delivering a minimalist, clean aesthetic for Fall, complete with shocking black bobs and sleek ponytails.
Highlights included Costa’s genius working of outwear; knee-length coats with sharp cuts and streamlined tailoring, arriving in rich blacks and mint green hues. Bright reds and soft tangerine fabrics were shaped into 50s styles such as refined opera coats and dress pieces.
The soft 50s silhouette continued with a parade of ladylike, understated dresses; curved waistlines and slightly flared skirts sitting elegantly just below the knee. Collarbone exposing necklines, sheer panelling, heavy black ‘magpie’ embellishment and the slightest pleating added interest to reworked variations of the LBD. Long sleeved melon numbers injected colour into the sombre palette.
Leather added a weighty balance to such quiet femininity. Think textured coats, pieced dresses and A-line skirts, all anchored with tall black boots.
If this is what Mara-as-muse translates to, we want more! Can’t wait for those press-tour wardrobes for the remaining Girl with… films.
